Next: A very curious Steller's sea lion tries to steal a diving watch in a spectacular interaction.

Michael Airey, a 61-year-old retired scuba diver, filmed the moment he was approached by a very curious and cheeky sea lion.

This happened off the coast of Hornby Island, British Columbia, Canada, and the sea lion repeatedly tried to tear off the diver's watch with its teeth.

Notorious for their inquisitive behavior, Steller's sea lions are known for being incredibly playful and confident around humans.

Michael gently thwarted the animal's attempts to steal the watch in this interaction.

He said: I have been diving and filming underwater for more than five years, and during this time I have recorded more than 700 dives. Being very curious animals, these sea lions will often grab anything a diver has on hand. They usually bite a diver's fins, but they also look for hands, air hoses, and anything shiny.

"I've never lost anything in a sea lion dream, but I have a diving cap with teeth marks from one of these sea lions that bit my head," said the diver.

I was both excited to be in such close contact with a wild animal and nervous that it might puncture my clothes or tear my gloves.
