IRNA: The first phase of the water transfer tunnel from Kani Sib Dam to Urmia Lake will be put into operation tomorrow with the presence of the President.
The construction process of this tunnel started in 2014, but due to the lack of allocation of resources, the project was not completed until after the visit of Ayatollah Raisi to West Azerbaijan, the completion of this project was put on the agenda.
This 7.35 km tunnel will transport 300 million cubic meters of water in the first phase and 600 million cubic meters of water in the second phase from the Sib mineral dam to Naqdeh Plain and Urmia Lake catchment area. The capacity of Lake Urmia is 3.4 billion cubic meters per year, and with the opening of this project, 5 years are needed for the lake to return to its ecological balance.
